Homemade Corn Dogs (Print Version)

Ingredients:

01 - 1 cup yellow cornmeal.
02 - 1 cup all-purpose flour.
03 - ¼ cup white sugar.
04 - 4 teaspoons baking powder.
05 - ¼ teaspoon salt.
06 - ⅛ teaspoon black pepper.
07 - 1 cup milk.
08 - 1 egg.
09 - 1 quart vegetable oil for frying.
10 - 2 (16 ounce) packages beef frankfurters.
11 - 16 wooden skewers.

Instructions:

01 - Combine cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and pepper in a medium bowl; stir in milk and egg to make a batter.
02 - Heat oil in a deep fryer or large saucepan to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
03 - Meanwhile, pat frankfurters dry and insert a skewer into each one.
04 - Roll frankfurters in batter until well coated.
05 - Fry 2 or 3 corn dogs at a time in preheated oil until lightly browned, about 3 minutes.
06 - Drain on paper towels.

Notes:

01 - We have determined the nutritional value of oil for frying based on a retention value of 10% after cooking. The exact amount may vary depending on cook time and temperature, ingredient density, and the specific type of oil used.
