Hearty Cajun Dirty Rice (Print Version)
Ingredients:
01 -
1 ½ cups water.
02 -
⅔ cup uncooked brown rice.
03 -
½ pound ground turkey.
04 -
½ cup chopped green bell pepper.
05 -
⅓ cup chopped onion.
06 -
½ teaspoon minced garlic.
07 -
½ teaspoon garlic powder.
08 -
½ teaspoon dried celery flakes.
09 -
1 teaspoon Cajun seasoning.
10 -
¼ teaspoon ground black pepper.
11 -
⅓ cup water.
12 -
1 pinch salt, or to taste.
Instructions:
01 -
Boil the 1 1/2 cups of water in a saucepan. Then add the brown rice, reduce the heat to maintain a simmer, cover and leave it until tender and the water is absorbed, which should take around 40 to 50 minutes. Keep the toasty rice aside.
02 -
Commence browning the ground turkey in a skillet over a medium flame. Do so until the turkey starts sweating its fat, a quick 2 to 3 minutes I reckon.
03 -
Throw in the green bell pepper, onion, and minced garlic to join the turkey party. Stir frequently until the turkey's no longer sporting pink, and the veggies are softened, another 5 to 8 minutes. Drain the excess grease, cause nobody's got time for that.
04 -
Now, for the grand assembly. Toss in the reserved rice, garlic powder, celery flakes, black pepper, Cajun seasoning, and 1/3 cup of H2O.
05 -
Simmer this concoction until all the liquid is a memory, say about 10 minutes. Give it a taste and slap some salt or more black pepper on there if it fancies you.
