Hearty Cabbage Rolls (Print Version)

Ingredients:

01 - 2 tablespoons butter.
02 - 1/2 cup onion finely chopped.
03 - 1 teaspoon garlic minced.
04 - 28 ounce can crushed tomatoes do not drain.
05 - 15 ounce can tomato sauce.
06 - Salt and pepper to taste.
07 - 2 tablespoons brown sugar.
08 - 1 tablespoon red wine vinegar.
09 - 1 cup cooked rice.
10 - 1/2 cup onion finely chopped (for filling).
11 - 1 teaspoon garlic minced (for filling).
12 - 1 teaspoon salt (for filling).
13 - 1/2 teaspoon pepper (for filling).
14 - 1/4 cup fresh parsley leaves chopped, divided use.
15 - 1 egg.
16 - 1 head cabbage.
17 - Cooking spray.
18 - 1 pound ground beef I use 90% lean.

Instructions:

01 - Melt the butter in a large pot over medium heat. Add the onion and cook for 4-5 minutes or until translucent.
02 - Add the garlic and cook for 30 seconds. Add the crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, salt and pepper to the pot.
03 - Stir in the brown sugar and red wine vinegar. Bring to a simmer and cook for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
04 - While the sauce simmers, bring a large pot of water to a boil and immerse the cabbage head. Cook for 3-5 minutes or until leaves are pliable.
05 - Combine ground beef, cooked rice, onion, garlic, salt, pepper, parsley, and egg. Add 1/2 cup of the tomato sauce and shape into logs for rolling.
06 - Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
07 - Coat a baking dish with cooking spray. Lay sauce, stuffed leaves atop, cover, and bake for 60-90 minutes.
08 - After baking, garnish with parsley and get ready to tuck in!.

Notes:

01 - We have determined the nutritional value of oil for frying based on a retention value of 10% after cooking. The exact amount may vary depending on cook time and temperature, ingredient density, and the specific type of oil used.
